Practical Uses of Plumber’s Putty Image
Plumber's putty is a substance similar to clay used in different plumbing jobs. It is easy to mold and handle, being manufactured from standard clay and different components depending on the manufacturer. Some of the main additives which can be found in plumber’s putty composition are linseed oil, talc, fish oil blends and limestone. Here are a few practical uses of plumber’s putty which our plumbers in Singapore find worth being mentioned.

Sealing sinks in Singapore

Plumber’s putty can be utilized around the rim of a sink in order to seal it and not allow water to pour through. It should however not be used if the countertop is granite or another type of stone. There are some sinks which are manufactured with clips for the bottom, under the countertop. These clips offer an appropriate pressure on the plumber’s putty so that it is effective enough.

Setting sink drains, tub drains, faucets and bolts

Similarly to being used on sinks, the plumber’s putty can be applied to set sink drains, tub drains, faucets and even on the bolts which attach a toilet tank to a bowl. This way, any future leaks will be avoided. When setting a stainless steel sink or handling a stainless steel countertop though, a specially made plumber’s putty designed especially for stainless steel is used by a plumber in Singapore.

Setting toilets in Singapore

By using the putty, the plumbers in Singapore are able to form a seal between the floor and the toilet base, while the toilet is assembled and its connections are being prepared. Caution is however necessary, as if the toilet is sealed all around and there appears a leak at some stage, the water will remain trapped in. Consequently, the toilet is not sealed all around and any signs of water will let the owner know there is a leak somewhere.

Sealing pipes and plumbing

If the plumber’s putty is utilized inside pipes and in plumbing, it will not hold up to water pressure. It is therefore used on pipes which do not require a lot of pressure. The putty is applied inside the pipe in order to seal two pipes together, in the place where the threads twist together.

If you have any further inquiries on how the plumber’s putty can be used or you need to take care of any Singapore plumbing job in your house, please let us know
